The only... not device... not substance..... not product.... thing.... so strongly proven effective that it has to be accounted for in every medical trial:
*Introducing*
Placebo Rock
You saw right. It's a rock. It has no chemical, pharmacological, physiological or any other medical effect. It doesn't have ions or magnetism and it doesn't block EMF or cosmic rays. It doesn't repair your telomeres. It doesn't detox or purge or correct imbalances. It better not. If it did we'd be in trouble with the FDA. It doesn't channel energy or have contact with the Astral Plane and it's clearly of mundane terrestrial origin.
So what good is a Placebo Rock? If you have a medical issue, nothing really. See a doctor, get your treatment.
However, there is evidence, well supported, that often the accouterments of treatment, conversation, attention and self-awareness can be associated with improvement in both the perception and the reality of healing and well being. The evidence is so strong that every medical trial must have a control group who get all of the ritual of treatment without actually getting the treatment under scrutiny. The potential treatment is considered effective only if more people who got the "real" treatment show benefit than the group that got just the ritual of treatment. [1]
At the same time, there are .... it's hard not to be hyperbolic... a lot....products and services... that make unsupported and unsupportable claims.
I make none of those.
The Placebo Rock is exactly what it looks like. A pretty rock.
It is what you make of it. Press it to your forehead and your concentration may improve. Keep it in your pocket to fidget with and you may find your confidence rising or your anxiety lessened. Any connection is entirely of your making. Take it out and look at it and it may make you smile.
Be warned that rocks can be harmful as well if used improperly. I trust to your good sense and past experience with such things when deciding how to make the best use of a Placebo Rock.
There are no plans to produce or market Placebo Rock. You're welcome to do it yourself. Enjoy. Just don't make any claims that are unsupported.
It's probably meaningless, like the rest of this but:
Placebo Rock is protected by CC-BY-SA-4.0
That means I give you permission, under what ever (admittedly feeble) authority I have for you to use the name "Placebo Rock" for any purpose, so long as you make a reference to this page and don't restrict others in any way more than this. That said, I'm pretty unlikely to take you to court in any event.
